real estate investments

Real estate investments involve inspecting the property, assessing value, and arranging financing. Real estate deals may involve raw land, houses, apartments, foreclosures, or REITs, to name a few examples.

Many investors use real estate as a way of diversifying investments from purely stock market based investing, for example.

Real estate investing is also possible to do internationally, adding another portfolio diversifying element.

Many like real estate investing also because of the concrete element of having a house/apartment/land as a basis for the investment.

Its also possible to generate areas of expertise within the real estate area.

For example, some specialize in fixed-uppers, where the target of the purchase is in a state that needs repairs, which normally translates to discounted prices (reflecting the state of the purchase object).

Learning Real Estate Investments

Because many people are familiar with purchasing real estate at some point in their lives, many are also interested in the possibilities to make real estate deals from investments perspective.

To this end, there are educational resources, from books and seminars to mentoring programs.

For many, books are a nice introductory way into real estate markets, while seminars and mentoring programs, being more expensive, are only added after being familiar with the basics of the marketplace.

You can also learn about the real estate market from chat rooms and online forums.

These are great resources for the basic information about the real estate market, with many of them containing articles and discussion aimed at the just beginning real estate investors.

The educational real estate resources include:

  • motivagroup.com (Canadian real estate investment mentoring program)
  • realestateinvesting.com (articles, courses, books, chat rooms, and news groups)
  • reitoolbelt.com (real estate investing tools)
  • uslandco.com (educational courses and live seminars)
  • russwhitney.com (books and seminars)

Books about real estate investing include:

  • Investing in Real Estate, Fourth Edition by Andrew McLean, Gary W. Eldred
  • Real Estate Investing From A to Z : The Most Comprehensive, Practical, and Readable Guide to Investing Profitably in Real Estate by William H Pivar
