Typically, these systems are sold as black box systems, where you simply get trading signals without knowing what rules were used to get to these signals. You simply trust that the system is profitable on whatever rules the vendor uses. There are some systems where the ability to just log into a black box is very understandable. One of these types is the neural network type of trading platforms, which are under current development and you really probably don't need to know how the neural network comes to it's final trading signals, if based on pattern recognition. These systems are updated constantly as technology advances, and having client side software would be only for getting the server side analysis to the desktop.
