New York Stock Market

New York Stock Market (NYSE) is the largest stock exchange in the world by dollar volume.

The NYSE operations are handled by NYSE Euronext, which itself was formed by NYSE's merger with Euronext, a pan-European stock exchange based in Paris and with subsidiaries in Belgium, France, Netherlands, Portugal and the United Kingdom.

Almost all NYSE listed stocks are available for trading via their electronic Hybrid Market.

This means the clients can send orders for immediate electronic execution, or route orders to the floor for trade in the auction market.

NYSE also composes the American Stock Exchange, which it merged with in 2007. American Stock Exchange lists companies with a lot similar characteristics as NASDAQ, a major competitor to the NYSE marketplace in North America.

Internationally, NYSE has received increasing competition from London Stock Exchange and Hong Kong Stock Exchange, for listings that have global significance and increasingly for intl tech IPOs, even for small cap tech firms.
